How Eastside U3A, is Organised

This is a copy of how U3A Christchurch North West is organised. Each U3A makes it's own rules so this is just a starting point.


Consists of the President, Secretary, Treasurer and up to seven other members.
Regular responsibilities are allocated among the committee.
Tasks are shared depending on members resources and commitments.
Monthly committee meetings are held 3rd Wednesday each month usually commencing 10.00 am.


Held in November.
Financial year is from 1 November – 31 October each year.
Written reports from Special Interest Groups are presented in the October newsletter.
President's and Treasurer's reports are presented at the AGM.
Election of officers for the following year is conducted.
Nominations for the committee are called for in advance but can also be accepted from the floor at the meeting.
If a casual vacancy occurs on the committee it can be filled with an appointee approved by the Committee.


Monthly meetings - Last Thursday of the month, Aldred Memorial Uniting Church, 36 Nancy Avenue.
Meetings commence at 9.45 am with tea and coffee, notices etc 10-10-10.15 am, speaker 10.20-10.25 am.
The programme for the new year is held from January–November. The November meeting is a Christmas lunch
. Housekeeping notices and/or a 10 minute talk may precede the introduction of the guest speaker.
Each month a guest speaker provides the main focus of the meeting.
At the first committee meeting following the AGM the committee shall appoint a member to be a representative at U3A Canterbury Network meetings, along with the President



Groups are co-ordinated by the Special Interest Group Co-ordinator.
Each group meets at times and venues suitable to their members.
Groups are established to meet the needs of the members with approval of the committee.
Groups are financially self-sustaining.
Special Interest Group members must be members of U3A.


By annual subscription from all members.
The subscription is set each year at the Annual General Meeting.
A pro rata subscription of half the full subscription will be payable by new members joining from 1 July.
