About Academici

Academici is proving to be very popular with university staff and PhD. students around the world. However the system is not restricted to people who are formal academics. The general public are welcome to join if they have the interest.

Academici is very young. There are now over 200,000 members and about 80 discussion networks, but the discussion has not taken off on most of them yet. Support is offered for several languages.

Would you prefer an Invitation?

If you would like me to invite you to join Academici please send an email to john.s.veitch at gmail dot com
Put "Invitation to Academici Please" in the subject line, and your name in the body of the message. I'll try to oblige withing 24 hours.

Preparation Beforehand

You can upload a photograph and a gif or jpg file about 150px by 180px would be ideal.

You might get out your academic qualification papers so you can record accurate dates and names.

First Steps

Most of your personal data is entered into pre-prepared data fields. There are lots of them. You record business details, academic details and your contact details.

When you view your "Contact Page" you see the business details on top, academic details, contact details, and a guestbook are recorded on successive "tabbed pages".

Making contact with people is simplified. You write a one line comment to the person you want to contact. They can choose to accept or reject the contact.

You are free to explore the many new Groups on Academici. You have to join a group to contribute.

Try to find some "sources of rich data" in Academici groups. If you can't find something to interest you, go somewhere else.

If you've joined Academici you should also be a member of LinkedIn. You can find out about being a Newbie at LinkedIn here.
